5 Best Herbal Teas to Relieve Menstrual Cramps in 2019

Best Herbal Teas to Relieve Menstrual Cramps

Menstruation is a bloody monthly problem. Excuse the Pun. And, for some women, it’s a nightmarish 5-day long experience they’d wish they had a solution to.

So, here’s a thing about teas that unheard of. They can significantly help in relieving cramps and abdominal discomfort during menstruation. Below, we have discussed five types of teas that are instrumental in soothing period pain and can help women breeze through their monthly cycle with a smile.

Without further ado, let’s dig in right away!

1. Peppermint Tea

While it’s a piece of common knowledge that peppermint tea alleviates sinus pain, it’s effectiveness against menstrual pain is a lesser known fact. The secret ingredient is Menthol in peppermint tea that lessens down the severity of menstrual cramps and drives relief.

Menstrual pains occur due to contraction and spasm of uterus muscles. Peppermint tea, with its strong anti-spasmodic properties, softens pain around the muscle walls of the uterus and helps with your period pain.

Dosage: Consume a cup of peppermint tea 2-3 times in a day. You can begin with the dosage 3-4 days before the onset and continue drinking it throughout your cycle.

2. Ginger Tea

Ginger Tea inarguably has the maximum therapeutic benefits for the human body. And, less wonder, it’s a perfect menstrual pain soother, helping women go about their routines without any discomfort. The drink acts on prostaglandins, compounds that are primarily responsible for triggering period pain, and reduces menstrual cramps considerably.

Some studies also suggest that ginger tea works like ibuprofen for treating period pain as well as the associated nausea by binding to HT3 receptors.

Note that ginger tea doesn’t eliminate menstrual pain completely. It only eases the severity.

Dosage: To relieve menstrual cramps, consuming 2 cups of ginger per day would suffice. However, it’s important that you consult your doctor before drinking ginger tea for menstrual complications, especially if you’re suffering from an allergy.

3. Chamomile Tea

Many women experience excessive bloating and frequent bowel movements before and during menstruation. Chamomile tea is an effective herbal treatment to cure the condition of bloating and constipation during menses, thanks to its amazing pain-relieving properties.

Combining chamomile and peppermint—two of the vital carminatives—for preparing the herbal solution to treat menstrual pain is an alternate remedy. The concoction helps in soothing the irritability caused by extreme abdominal gassiness and alleviates the pain around uterus walls.

Dosage: Start drinking a cup of chamomile tea daily 2-3 before your date and consume it throughout your cycle.

4. Dandelion Tea

Sore breasts and bloating are also one of the most annoying conditions that women experience during ‘those’ days of the month. For them, our advice is consuming a cup of dandelion tea daily.

Dandelion tea has powerful diuretic properties, which work by flushing out the salts from your body and accelerating the metabolism of the body. This eventually results in reducing breast swelling and bloating.

Dosage: Drink a cup daily preferably in the morning.

5. Cinnamon Tea

Cinnamon tea works just as same as peppermint tea. Armed with anti-spasmodic properties, it relieves the stress around uterus walls and calms menstrual ache. In addition to this, cinnamon tea has anti-inflammatory benefits, which act as a balm for abdominal discomfort and nausea.

For preparing cinnamon tea, add cinnamon to some water and simmer it for 15 minutes. You can add natural sweeteners, such as milk and honey, to add some flavour.

Dosage: A cup every day can do the wonders for your menstrual problems.
