The Wholesome Hibiscus Tea: 7 Benefits & The Conditions It Cures Naturally

Hibiscus Tea isn’t just a herbal brew, but a key traditional medicine, whose potent benefits are yet to be explored. This article covers the some of the research-based benefits of Hibiscus Tea and also leaves you with some interesting recipes you can easily make at home.

Explained: The Therapeutic Benefits of Hibiscus Tea

Hibiscus Tea is a time-honored, therapeutically rich cure for a range of health conditions. And, it isn’t something we’re saying out of an unfounded, self-elevating idea of this herbal brew, but medical researches, which has established the significant benefits of Hibiscus Tea.

Historically, Hibiscus Tea was used to treat sore throat, heart diseases, and lower body temperature in African countries. However, studies have also looked into its potential to treat high cholesterol and blood pressure problems. We’ve hyperlinked a few of them further in this blog.

So, let’s dive in straight!

  1. High Blood Pressure

Hibiscus Tea is rich in antioxidants and has been found to be suffused with antihypertensive and hypocholesterolemic properties, which in turn, control blood pressure and lower cholesterol levels.

A 2010 study in the Journal of Nutrition revealed improvements in patients with blood pressure problems. During the course of observation, the participants were divided into two groups

While one group was given placebo drinks, another one was given 8-ounce servings of Hibiscus tea over a period of six months. The findings showed a significant reduction in the systolic blood pressure of those belonging to the second group.

A meta-analysis published in 2015 also suggested that Hibiscus tea can control both systolic and diastolic blood pressure.

  1. Weight Loss

Hibiscus tea promotes weight loss and there are a couple of findings to support the claim.

A study revealed that Hibiscus tea has an inhibitory on weight gain and cuts down the risk of obesity. It showed that this Hibiscus tea results in lowered BMI (Body Mass Index), fat accumulation and hip-to-waist ratio.

Another study pointed out that Hibiscus extracts reduced cholesterol and triglycerides for Mexicans, which alleviated the risk of obesity.

While more research is required to confirm the benefits of Hibiscus tea for weight loss, we’re assured of a fact that Hibiscus tea isn’t just a herbal beverage, but much beyond that.

  1. Cholesterol Control

A study was conducted on two groups to examine and compare the benefits of Hibiscus tea with that of black tea on cholesterol levels.

After 30 days of observation, none of the groups were checked positive for reduced bad cholesterol levels. However, a significant improvement in the levels of good cholesterol levels was noticed.

Another study, which also included a 2014 review of clinical trials, deduced that consuming Hibiscus tea or extract helped improve good cholesterol levels while reducing the bad cholesterol and triglyceride levels simultaneously.

Still, a more conclusive proof is needed to establish the efficacy of Hibiscus tea for cholesterol control.

  1. Nutrition

Hibiscus tea doesn't have calorie and caffeine content. Also, it has a tart flavor, which makes it naturally sweet and ideal for consumption if you’re wary of spiraling sugar levels, or are diabetic.

The nutritional value of Hibiscus tea is attributed to the presence of anthocyanins, a natural colorant compound found in cranberries.
